Open role

Brewer

Own our brewing, grain to glass

Bier Factory has brewed craft beer in Rapperswil-Jona since 2000 — before "craft" was even a word here. We mill, brew, ferment, package and bottle everything in one room, right in the middle of Rapperswil-Jona — a beautiful community set on the water at the upper end of Lake Zurich. We already make great beer — now we're starting a new chapter and want someone to own our brewing end to end, grain to glass, and shape the entire future of what we pour.

This is a hands-on ownership role. You'll run our new, largely automated, software-controlled brewery — as comfortable with a clean data log as with a mash paddle — and the whole operation is yours. You set the standards, keep the kit running, and make the beer great. You'll have one assistant helping with some of the work, but the brewery and everything in it is your responsibility.

The kit you'll run

A 10-hl, three-vessel brewhouse (mash/kettle, lauter, whirlpool); 13 tanks (six 2,000 L and seven 1,000 L, ~19,000 L total) for fermentation and conditioning; and a Meheen semi-automatic 6-head counter-pressure filler (~1,200 bottles/hour). For quality you've got a proper bench — an Anton Paar portable CO₂/O₂ meter with the PFD Plus for bottle and tank measurements, an Anton Paar EasyDens for °Plato, and a Hanna digital pH meter. Modern, well-equipped, and genuinely nice to work on.

Our rhythm

We brew around 2–3 times a week on average, flexing up or down with demand — a real, steady working brewery.

You'll own

  • Production A–Z on modern, automated equipment — every batch is yours
  • Packaging kegs and bottles (roughly one day a week)
  • Repping us now and then at local festivals and events — out pouring and sharing the beer you made (we're doing more of these)
  • Everyday troubleshooting and basic maintenance — you're handy and keep the kit healthy (and know when to call in a pro)
  • Safety programs, QA and process protocols — built and owned by you, from the ground up
  • Recipe and new-beer development — core lagers to hazies, stouts, alcohol-free, whatever's next
  • The cleanliness and documentation standard the whole floor follows

You are

  • Formally trained in brewing and/or food production — e.g. Lebensmitteltechnolog/in EFZ (Bier), Doemens, VLB, Weihenstephan, IBD, or similar
  • Experienced brewing at production scale and ready to step up and own the brewing
  • Highly self-motivated — you spot what needs doing and do it, without anyone pointing it out. We want an owner, not someone who waits to be managed.
  • Handy — comfortable troubleshooting equipment and doing basic fixes yourself
  • Tech-savvy and detail-obsessed — automated systems and software excite you
  • Clean, focused, safety-minded, and full of ideas about beer and where it's going
  • Fluent English is required; very good German is strongly preferred (French or Italian a bonus)

A spotless operation

Cleanliness is central here — CIP and cleaning your tanks, kegs and lines, and keeping the whole production floor, all the equipment on it, and the lab area immaculate. It's a small team, so that standard is yours to own and hold.

The deal

80% permanent, core days Monday–Thursday (a real long weekend), with some seasonal flex around brew/packaging days and festivals. This is a rare shot to build a brewery program your way from the start. We're in an exciting build phase, so the role — and where it can go — grows as we do. If you're a capable brewer hungry to make your mark, we could have a long future ahead. Above all, we're a small team that hires people, not just roles — here, you'd be part of the family.

One important thing

You must already be living in and authorised to work in Switzerland. We can't sponsor a permit or a relocation from abroad.

On-call Taproom & Events Crew

Pour beer, meet everyone, have fun

We're building a small, reliable crew of friendly humans to help out on busy taproom evenings, Saturday nights, private events, and the local festivals we'll be popping up at. It's casual, hourly, low-key and genuinely good fun — perfect alongside studies, another job, or life in general.

You'll

Pour and serve our beers, keep the vibe warm and the tables reset, help set up and tear down events, and make sure everyone's having a good time.

You are

A real people-person first and foremost, reliable when you say yes, happy on your feet, fluent in German — that one's a must — with good English a nice bonus, and already living and authorised to work in Switzerland. No hospitality experience needed — we'll teach you the beer part.

The deal

Flexible on-call hours (you tell us when you're free), the standard Swiss gastro hourly wage plus your share of tips, and the best crash-course in craft beer you'll ever get.
